I was swept out to sea
exhausted and gasping for air
weak and  struggling
as the rip recklessly pushed me
further and further away from the beach,
and then
I saw the heroic watchful lifeguard
paddling towards me
I woke up in a hospital bed
with the doctor examining me
I had taken in a lot of water
And sprained an ankle .
I hobbled back to the lifeguard tower
and
said
THANK YOU.

Persuasive poem on animal cruelty by Mia

If you care about animals
 then stop caging animals,
fighting animals against each other,
starving animals and greyhound racing
We need them and they need us
So please help stop animal cruelty.

My legs scarred in pain and terror
My ears and
tail in blisters, infection
Pussy sores that ooze when scratched
from cropping when I was a pup
My body itches like slow torture of pinpricks
My mother died from slow agonizing
and ache of starvation
And I will be next
My ribs and bones rub against my skin
The collar scores my neck like wood gradually
being cut with a blunt knife
The inside of my neck like a desert
 with no oasis or rain

1.Please donate to the RSPCA or any facility that helps animal and dogs
2. Please adopt a greyhound or rescue dog if you’re looking for a pet

.“Grandma can you tell me a story.”
“Ah yes my child.”
 “I shall tell you about my childhood”.
“When I was a child I decided to go for a walk in our old garden you see we lived in the family house that had been in the family for centuries and as I was walking through the garden I saw something shiny near the creek. I realized that it was a whistle, so I picked it up and I washed it in the creek and I took it back to the house to show my father. As I was about to show him, a whistle blew and everyone disappeared.
“What did you do grandma.”
"Well I was panicking and then I thought to myself why don't I blow my whistle and see what happens."

Mia Week 21

Dear Diary today a hungry eagle came to Miacat Metropolis. A whistle blew and everyone disappeared. When the  Captain  blows his  loud whistle that means we have to dive into the closest tunnel.The Miacat Monsters  go out and fight the predator. I peeped out the tunnel and saw little Mikey hidden in the sand with a straw in his mouth and a  cobra’s jaw in his hand. The eagle stepped on little Mikey and then he jabbed the poisonous  jaw into the eagle's leg. The eagle staggered and then died.

It's unfair that my LITTLE brother gets to be in the Miacat Monsters and I don't, just because I’m a girl.

Mia Week 20

                                           The Midnight Statue

The statue sits, patiently anticipating midnight. 11:58 11:59 then a traveller sitting next to the statue looks up from his book and sees a silver rusted hand in front of  him.

“ Howdy”,  said the statue.

Have you ever heard the screeching outside your window when he walks around at night with his rusty unoiled legs and arms?

Do you know why the statue is a statue?

Well at midnight on Halloween a black cat came and sat on his lap. The cat murmured. The man felt himself turning to metal. The cat jumped off him, turned, looked over her shoulder and gave a nasty smile then she happily walked off.

There’s a statue in  towns park,
 that sits on the park bench,
 waiting and waiting and waiting,
for what
 nobody knows 
but all I know is that he is waiting.
 I sit and wonder
 and ponder
 about who he is?
 About what he thinks?
 If he is sad ?
 if he is waiting for a train? 
What is he waiting for? .
And then in the dark and dead of midnight
 I snuck out tiptoe and sat next to him
 and I told him my questions
 and then I heard a creak
 and he said
I wait for the one hundredth year to move again
 I am cursed by the evil wizard Merlin

Predator swooped and caught me just as I felt my foot touch the dragon's tooth.
Predator flew up into the sky like a rocket.Carefully she placed me on slightly pink cloud that looked like cotton candy. Suddenly I heard a booming roar and I fell through the the cloud, with the flaming dragon chasing after me. I somehow fell on Predator’s back. Predator and I dived down and grabbed a sharp stone. We flew up next to one of the dragon’s wings and stabbed it, she fell and then she was done. We watched as the flame flickered and then went out.

“Yes Ron that thing is my dad's brother and I would not like to refer to me Uncle as a thing” Violet said. Hermione gasped, “B b b but he is so much bigger than your dad isn't he” . Hermione said

“Yes but when he comes up here my dad is exactly the same size as uncle Thor”  

“There is nothing to worry about I won't hurt you” said Thor. As he shot a  blue flame on to the cloud  and as the flame flickered and then went out.

“You see I could shoot you with my lighting but I don’t because I love children and I would never hurt a child”. Thor explained

“Come let's go have a pot of  tea and chat for a bit”. Thor said

But just as he said that the Hogwarts school bell rang and it was time to say good bye and as they ran back up the hill they could see his giant face smiling at them.

"Harry where are you going? " Hermione shouted.
“I am going to heaven”, Harry shouted back.
“Up a staircase to the sky are you mad?” , Ron said .
 “In your orange pyjamas?” , Violet said.
“Violet is right. Come back Harry!” , Hermione said.
As Harry walked up the staircase booming sounds of thunder started. Violet ,Hermione and Ron chased after him . When they finally reached the top they saw Harry crying, because he didn’t find his parents .He found a demi-god that did not like them and he was very angry. They stared at him in silence and then out of nowhere he grabbed Violet's waist and it was if she swam through a cloud and he said “Violet my child how are you?”
“Good uncle Thor but ya don’t need to scare my friends like that.”
“That thing is your uncle?.” Ron said with his mouth wide open.

Mia week 18

 I saw dazzling waterfalls with sparkling streams. In the streams gracefully swam gorgeous dolphins and vibrant fish. I stared in amazed silence .  Suddenly a dragon came swooping down and caught me like a fisherman catching a fish. I looked up and saw that I was being carried by a big ferocious,orange mother dragon now I understood what was going on AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH. She let out a huge  roar it shook the ground like thunder.She picked me up by my pajamas and held me over her babies’ gaping mouths, I was so  terrified I almost did a number 2. Then she dropped me...

How does your climate affect how you live?

We live in Canberra the capital of Australia.

In summer Canberra has an average maximum temperature of 29*C and a minimum temperature of 14*C  We get about 65mm of rain each month.There are often lots of flies, kangaroos, cockatoos, galahs and bush fires.

We wear short sleeve tops, shorts and thongs.

We eat icey poles, frozen grapes, cold water and ham and cheese sandwiches.

We cool our home with air conditioning.

In summer our favourite things to do are go to our tree house , go to the pool, go to the water park , camping and Christmas.

In winter Canberra has an average maximum temperature of 13*C and a minimum temperature of 1*C. We get about 47mm of rain each month. There is often frost on our car windows, grass, bushes and trees.

We wear tracksuits, tracksuit pants, thermals, thermal underwear, beanies, fluffies, mittens, socks and scarfs.

We eat and drink hot cocoa with mini marshmallows, cheese pasta, soup, curry and toasted cheese sandwiches.

We heat our homes with air conditioning, electric heaters and the wood fire

In winter our favourite things to do are going to Corin Forest where we go tobogganing and building snow men. We also like watching movies and eating snacks all day in bed.

Today the weather is rainy and windy and  14*C :(     :(

Mia week 17

She blasted up into  the sky. I was only hanging on to her by one feather.Predator shrieked painfully, out came the feather. I dropped.A big gust of wind came twirling me round and round in circles. I lost consciousness……

When I woke up, there was Predator  staring down at me with her large yellow eyes.I sat up and found myself at the bottom of a gorgeous staircase leading up to the sky. I decided to climb it so up and up I climbed Predator helped me along the way. When I got to the top I saw.....

Hermione and I are in the same room and the boys are in the same group Gryffindor,but different dormitory.

“Good morning Hermione how was your night?”

"Good thank you , and you um um” ,

“Its Lightning,  Violet Lightning”  

“Let’s go get the boys up Violet”.

“Ok Hermione”.

“” BOYS GET UP!!!!!”.                                           

“They are not getting up “.            

   “You know what to do right Violet”.

“ Punch ‘em”.

“Exactly Violet    “.

“Ouch that hurt”.

“ Yes well get out of bed !”

“ Ok ok we're up “.

“Come on then let's go down to the forest and see what we can find”.

“Good night mum, night nan. See you tomorrow.”

I went to my room and brushed my teeth and went to bed.Suddenly I was at Hogwarts with Hermione,Harry and Ron and I was so excited and Hermione asked me who I was?

I said  “Hagrid brought me here when I was asleep”.

Harry asked me who my parents were?

I said “My dad is a Warlord and my mum is the daughter of a Viking and the trip over here was a whirlwind of surprises and I don't want any more surprises.”

Ron asked if my dad’s name is Storm and my mum’s name Frida?

“Do you know my parents?”

“ Yes our dads are best friends”.

“Oh so you're the little boy I’ve always wanted to meet.” I said and I punched him on the shoulder.

Ron said to Harry, “Remind me not to get her bad side”.

Harry and Hermione chuckled.

Time passes
“Now that you're big and strong,I'm going to ride you OK?”

Mia Week 12

The writing stimulus the week was the words: lie, row, fly, chips and sweet.

When I was having a lie down I remembered the  magic sparklers . I decided to explore their powers. I found out that you can use the sparklers two times.I pulled out a sparkler and it  made  chips of gold fly, from its little fire flickers,it made row upon rows too.

After the sparkler finished burning I took all the gold and I gave two pieces to each family member.I used the rest to help support the poor people. I built houses and I got them new clothes as well. I bought them all a little sweet too.

I lined the tools  up in a row and suddenly my pendant was flashing like a raging fire. I tried again and again and finally I was home in the attic at last. I went downstairs and ate chips and a sweet.I told my mum all about my adventures and she told me that my great grandmother had owned the pendant and my grandmother owned it and she owned it and now I owned the pendant.She told me that she remembers the ballerina with the diamond tutu and leotard. I went to my room and l lie there on my bed . But I decided to go back to Superhero Land and fly through the air  with the superheroes.

On the weekend  the electricity and internet connection broke. When the connection broke there there were candles and thousands of little lights and they all lit up the sky like a bunch of fireflies. In fact, I just realised at that second, they were fireflies and they were all different colors like blue, gold and green.  I suddenly saw a pack of sparklers. On the sparklers packet there was a sign, on the sign, it said “Warning: magic sparklers”. It also said that each sparkler had its own magic power. I took one out. I pulled out a lighter that I have been keeping in my pocket for emergencies like this, when I lit the sparkler everything turned back on and the fireflies vanished,the candles blew out too.Then I blew out the sparkler and the lights went off again, the fireflies came back and the candles lit up again. I wonder  what the other sparklers’ powers are……..

I went to leave Statue Land when the connection broke...I was trapped in the middle of two worlds and everything was swirling like Van Gogh’s Starry Starry Night painting. I tried to reset the pendant but it didn’t work.

“HELP”

“If you want to get home look in your pocket for what you seek”.

I looked in my pocket.I left home with a pack of gum and some coins so why do I have a golden spanner, a pair of tweezers and wire.

“Who on earth are you?”

“ Ha-hum I am the guardian of this in between world”

There was one group statue of three wizards .

“What are those wizards statues doing?”, I asked out loud.

“ They are trying to expel the witches from the forest “.

“Uh who said that”,I said surprised.

” Me down here.”said a little voice.

“Where did you come from?”

“I was a statue”.

“How did you move and turn into a little girl?.”

“Because I am a princess with magical powers and those wizards are Dumbledore, Merlin and Mustapha” .

“ How come they are statues?,” I asked.

“They did a spell wrong and turned everybody into statues including themselves”, the little girl said.

“Great idea John.What’s your plan?”Huang replied positively.

“I don’t know I’m skeptical”, answered Mohammed as he stroked his beard.

“Why are you skeptical.”John questioned.

“Because it  has been done before and not worked.” Mohammed firmly replied.

Hey there my name is Cookie Wuffs and I’m the bravest, most vicious dog ever. I am standing on a prickle right now oh ah the pain boohoo I want my mummy!!!!!

Now that that's out of my foot where were we oh yes that's right I am the best dog super hero EVER. I snarl upon cats they’re so cattie. Unlike us dogs we’re the most intelligent animals that ever existed.OH NO a fire in the house, never fear I’ll save you mummy. How do I get to her you ask? I will fly to her (thump) ouch  maybe I’ll just run to to her.

This week's writing stimulus was the theme "Superheroes"

Our  previous adventure was to the land of the Nutcracker.  When you guys were gone, I studied the pendant and on the back there is a dial.There were different places, including Superhero World. I wondered what Superhero World was so I put the pendant on and dialed it to Superhero World and off I went.When I got there I saw Batman, Superman, Wonderwoman ,Flash and so many other superheroes.  They asked me who I was and I said I was from a different world called Planet Earth. They all stood there and marveled at the fact that I had come all the way from Planet Earth .

I was cleaning the attic when I found a pendant. It was shaped like a hot air balloon . I put it on and  was transported to a  new world where green gum drops grow on strawberry licorice trees and houses were made of gingerbread.   I realised I was most likely in  the world of the Nutcracker.  I walked on and I saw the swans swimming in a lake. that had gas bubbles that smells like candy canes. and it also had ballet dancer sitting in the most beautiful diamond tutu and leotard.  I took off the pendant to give to the dancer but  I was back in the attic

My friend Dancer and I are “SO HOT” it’s 40 degrees in the shade. We’re imagining being in a cave there is crystal green water. Dancer and I decided to go swimming in it. Gas bubbles rise to the top of the cave and then the bubbles burst with fragrances of bubblegum, strawberries and frangipanis. A particularly big bubble rose to the top of the cave  and then …. pop the bubble popped filling the cave with the beautiful rich aroma of fresh chocolate cake.

“This is not likely”, Dancer interjected.

“Shush you heartless fantasy slayer!”

It’s  cuddly and slobbery too and it makes you smile whenever you’re blue.

“Is it a….. puppy?”I asked.

“No” Nana replied.

“ Here’s another rhyme”

Roses are red, violets are blue your birthday present is perfect for you.

“Hmm is it a unicorn?” I gasped.

“hahaha no” answered Nana.

Nana told me that the last clue is that my birthday present is  behind the door.

The door opened and there it was, Mum’s new baby.

It was Saturday morning and I was getting up to go play in the park with my friends when I heard something in my closet. It was scratching and growling and it was scary .I wanted to run and hide but I wanted to see what was in my closet. I got closer and closer and closer and closer AND CLOSER AND THEN  THE DOOR OPENED AND THERE IT WAS……….…………. IT RAN AT  ME  AND  IT  SHOCKED  ME. It was... … my puppy dog Coco. That silly  puppy always gets in everything. So I picked her up and we went to the park.

Sally is so excited because it's her birthday! She jumped downstairs and she shocked to see that her Mum,Dad,brother and Nena that they had all forgotten her birthday. Sally was so upset but still she ate her breakfast ,got her backpack and marched to school.When Sally got home from school she was very sad and she went to her room and did her homework and read some books.Sally's brother Abraham said
 "Come on let's go outside and have some ice-cream "
and so they went outside and  "SURPRISE HAPPY  BIRTHDAY SALLY"
Sally said"I knew you would not forget my birthday".

This week's writing stimulus was the phrase ...she was shocked to see... 

Michelle Payne the jockey got employed to race in the Melbourne Cup. She was riding the six year old horse, Prince of Penzance, and she was the number nineteen. Her colours are red, green and white.  The first prize is $605 690.

Michelle Payne was at the back of the race then she moved to the middle and at the final stretch she blasted to the front winning the race. SHE WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THAT SHE HAD WON THE RACE.

She was exhilarated and overjoyed.

The horse got his favourite food. Michelle Payne was the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup.

Introduction

My name is Vivian Harris and I am a teacher who is employed to homeschool two primary aged girls.  We live near Canberra, the capital city of Australia. I am joining the 100 Word Challenge as a spur to my students' writing, to enable them to see what other students are writing and to have an authentic audience for their work. School doesn't start for my students until the 1st February so we will join in then.
